Life Flow
Caroline Cloutier

April 27 to May 27, 2023

" I was reborn in the California desert on January 28, 2023. I gave birth to my current self after living and dying 1000 times. When I stepped out under the pristine blue sky, I gazed upon the Sun and the waxing crescent Moon above, both guiding me with their sacred dance. The ultimate Father and Mother of us all, teaching us the cycle of life and death, leading us with their rhythm, providing us wisdom and faith."

Galerie Nicolas Robert Toronto is proud to present Life Flow, an exhibition of recent works by Caroline Cloutier. She pursues her research in photography and drawing, inspired by her spiritual reflections. The works in the exhibition reaffirm the legacy of minimalist abstraction by addressing the effects of light, color, and sacred geometry. Cloutier draws visual parallels to Aristotle's concept of Energeia, where the being is self-actualized through action and movement.

Born in Amos, QC, Caroline Cloutier lives and works in Montreal and holds an MFA in Studio Arts from Concordia University. She is interested in the modes of interaction between image, space and perception, through photography and installation. Her work has been shown in Montreal, Toronto, New York, Linz, and Rome. She has participated in several national and international residencies and will be in residence at the NARS Foundation, Brooklyn, in 2024.

The artist is grateful to Becca Evans, the Warner Springs Cupeno’s land, and to her Anishinaabe Algonquin ancestors, Canada Council for the Arts, Conseil des arts et des lettres du Québec and Conseil des arts de Longueuil supported this project.
